An Uzbek national has been indicted in the United States on charges of threatening the life of US President Barack Obama and illegal possession of weapons.
A federal grand jury in Birmingham in the US state of Alabama charged Ulugbek Kodirov on Tuesday on charges of threatening to kill Obama on four occasions from July 9 to 13, and possessing grenades and a firearm, AFP reported.
Kodirov, 21, was arrested July 13 at a motel in Leeds, Alabama, after buying an M15 machine gun from a US undercover agent.
"Kodirov faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison on each count of threatening the president and a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison on each of the weapons counts," the US Department of Justice announced in a statement.
The Uzbek national entered the US in June 2009 on a student visa, but it was revoked in April 2010 since he was not enrolled in school.
