The U.N. Security Council is strongly condemning attacks across Africa by the rebel Lord's Resistance Army.
The LRA originated in Uganda and is known for vicious attacks against civilians, for abducting children and forcing them to become recruits, and for brutally torturing others. Its leader, Joseph Kony, is wanted by the International Criminal Court.
The Security Council said after a closed meeting Thursday that the attacks, which have displaced over 380,000 people across the region, "pose a continuing threat to regional security."
The council demanded an end to LRA attacks on civilians and urged all LRA fighters to surrender and disarm.
It commended efforts by the militaries of the Central African Republic, Congo, South Sudan and Uganda to address the LRA threat.
