Teacher comes to school drunk, makes girls dance, boys sing; india

TIRUVANNAMALAI: A government teacher who went to school drunk and asked the boys to sing and the girls to dance was suspended by the district education officer in Tiruvannamalai district on Tuesday. The teacher, P Sundaramoorthy, 48, from Vaipur in Tiruvannamalai taluk was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

Sundaramoorthy is a chemistry teacher in Avoor government high school under Vettavalam police station.After imparting lessons in the first period, he went to a nearby bar during a 10-minute break and consumed alcohol, the police said.

He returned to the school but entered the wrong classroom. Sundaramoorthy then told the boys of sixth standard to sing film songs and the girls to stand on the desks and dance. The boys started singing but the girls refused to dance.

Sundaramoorthy pulled a couple of girls, twisted their arms and forced them to dance. Six of the girl students ran out of the classroom towards the school gate, where some parents were waiting. The parents were shocked to hear about the incident.

The headmistress, Ramadevi, lodged a complaint at the Vettavalam police station. Police booked the teacher under section 4 (1) of Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act (possession and consumption of liquor). The police produced him before a local court that sent him to judicial custody.
