Police crack down on Bangalore dance bars

BANGALORE: Central Crime Branch sleuths raided two dance bars and arrested bargirls late on Thursday. Police said the girls were not dressed as per the code prescribed for them and also indulged in provocative dancing.

The first raid was at Chef Inn Bar and Restaurant, Mehkri Circle. Sleuths said the raid was conducted based on information about the bargirls and that liquor was being served illegally there. Police took into custody nine dancers from Chef Inn. C Ramesh, who runs the bar, and agents of the bargirls, Satish HS and Ravi, were arrested. KA Satyam, who holds the liquor licence, is still at large. Cases were booked under section 294 of IPC (obscene acts and songs) and section 36 clause (b) of Karnataka Excise Act.

In the second raid, 13 bargirls were taken into police custody under the same sections, from Four Seasons Bar in Sampangiramanagar near Corporation Circle. The bar, located under Pallavi theatre, was raided late on Thursday night.

Police said the bargirls were dressed inappropriately and danced obscenely. Two agents have been arrested.

Bar owner Sanjay Kochar, who is also president of Working Women's Bar and Restaurant Association, is absconding. When TOI tried to contact him, he was unavailable.
