Pakistan, US ties to prosper, says Munter

ISLAMABAD - US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter said on Tuesday that the relationship between Pakistan and United States bears resemblance with that of Scar and Felix, two protagonists of Neil Simson’s play ‘The Old Couple’, which he launched here at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA).
“In some ways, US-Pakistan relationship does bear resemblance to the relationship between Oscar and Felix. We sometimes see the world in different ways,” Ambassador Munter said in his opening remarks of the collaborative American and Pakistani production of Neil Simon’s play that would remain open to the public till July 17.
Ambassador Munter went on narrating the unique resemblance saying “As Oscar and Felix discover, and as I believe is true for our bilateral relationship, that even at times pass through rough patches, we can find a way to live together, to support each other, and to prosper.”
The play ‘The Odd Couple’ ventures a story that revolves around two very good friends with very different personalities, Oscar and Felix. They decide to share a New York apartment. This situation makes for an enduring and endearing comedy, and a classic work of the American stage. The play was also produced in a Hollywood flick and long-running US TV series.
Renowned stage director and US Cultural Envoy Allen Nause, who are in Pakistan at the invitation of the US Embassy, directed the play. In addition to this play, he has also conducted a series of workshops for young artists in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore over the past two months. In Islamabad, he has collaborated with the arts and entertainment company “Lush,” and the PNCA to stage the play.
Cultural Envoys are American performing and visual artists, arts managers and educators who travel abroad for short-term residencies to conduct workshops and master classes, present seminars, and deliver lectures.
The US embassy brought Nause to Pakistan to initiate a sustained series of embassy-sponsored cultural programs that manifest America’s long-term commitment to engagement and creative collaboration between Pakistanis and Americans.
