NEW DELHI: The probe into the hacking of CBI website by Pakistani Cyber Army (PCA) has revealed that Islamabad managed to breach the premier agency by creating proxy servers.
CBI has traced these servers in Pakistan, United States ( California), Indonesia ( Jakarta) and Latvia.
A source in CBI said, "the IP addresses show that CBI website was hacked from Pakistan. However, to confuse investigators Pakistan created three more proxy servers in three other countries."
The investigators believe that the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, has played a big role in hacking of CBI website.
The agency, which registered a case against the hacking on December 5, is now sending Letter Rogatories (LRs) to these four countries to get details of the servers and creators of IP addresses.
The CBI website, which has link to Interpol's database of criminals, has been restored a week ago by National Informatics Centre (NIC).
PCA hacked the website on December 3, avenging the hacking of 36 Pakistani portals by Indian Cyber Army on November 26.
"Pakistan hacked CBI website because they claimed that on the anniversary of 26/11 attacks, their websites were hacked by Indian Cyber Army. They also left at CBI website after hacking that 'Indian should think about security of their websites' ", said an official.
CBI investigations suggest that either Pakistan created proxy servers on its soil or individuals in these four countries developed them.
"We are sending LRs to these countries to ascertain the detail," said a source.
PCA described itself as Predators PK, claiming they hacked around 200 Indian websites, including CBI, NGOs, private and religious organisations, as reported by Pakistani daily, The Express Tribune, in December.
"They developed pages and then inserted into Indian servers and sites at the root level," said a CBI official.
PCA also left a message on CBI website at the time of hacking: "This is just a warning to all script kiddies Indian hackers. Stop being no0bs and defacing Pakistani websites. Your security was good but we like breaking it!"
