Over 460 dead, missing in China floods

Chinese authorities say more than 460 people have died or gone missing in the country since June due to massive floods and landslides.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs said on Saturday that since June 1, rain-triggered natural disasters have left 355 people dead, with 112 remaining missing.

More than 2.3 million residents have been forced to evacuate their homes since the beginning of last month, it added.

In one incident on Saturday, 13 people died when a bus and a truck were damaged by a mudslide in the northwestern province of Gansu, Xinhua reported.

More than 800 people in over 300 vehicles were stranded on a highway in southwest China's Yunnan province after the road was blocked by mud and rocks.

The disasters also resulted in direct economic losses of 350 million yuan (about USD 54.13 million), the National Commission for Disaster Reduction said in a statement.

The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said it allocated 3.8 billion yuan (USD 584.6 million) for non-structural measures to reduce flood risks in mountainous areas.
