Afghan soldier kills US-led soldier

The Western military alliance says a man in Afghan army uniform has killed one of its service members in Helmand Province in troubled southern Afghanistan.

The deadly shootings occurred 25 km (15 miles) from the city of Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital of Helmand.

"An individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform turned his weapon against International Security Assistance Force service members in southern Afghanistan today, killing one service member," NATO said in a statement on Saturday.

NATO says the attacker ran away following the shooting.

Three US-led foreign forces have lost their lives across Afghanistan over the past 24 hours.

Earlier, two more NATO troopers lost their lives in two separate incidents -- one in a militant attack in the west of the country and the other in a bomb blast in the south.

The nationality of none of these soldiers is known.

So far this year violence in Afghanistan has claimed the lives of at least 311 foreign soldiers -- most of them American.

According to official figures, more than 2,591 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.

Violence in Afghanistan has been at its worst since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001. The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign forces in the country.
