LAHORE – The first phase of the PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars Programme for under-16 players will start from July 10. This will be the second edition of the programme which is being conducted by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in collaboration with PEPSI International.
It aims at identifying the cricket talent in the Pakistani Youth and would help in developing skilled cricketers at the grass root level which can then be groomed to become super stars of the future, said a spokesman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) here on Friday.
The Pepsi-PCB cricket stars programme will be conducted in four phases. In the first phase open trials will be held in 43 districts that would conclude in October 2011.
In the second phase around 35 short-listed players will appear for final trials at respective regional headquarters for the selection of 11 Regional and 1 FATA Team and a short training camp of teams would be held under NCA designated coaches in November 2011.
In the 3rd phase Inter-region U-16 tournament will be held in November/December 2011. In the 4th phase 24 top performers of the Inter-region U-16 tournament, selected by the national selection committee would be organised in January/February at National Cricket Academy (NCA) under NCA elite coaches.
The trials for the first phase of this nationwide talent hunt programme for young and upcoming players will be held in 43 districts of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and AJK. Players born on or after September 1, 1995 are eligible to appear for trials. Original Form B of NADRA is required for age verification and no other document in this regard would be accepted.
In this phase Talent Hunt Officers and Regional Coaches will conduct 2 days open trials in each of the districts selected for this purpose, which will be followed by the age verification process to be conducted by the NCA medical panel. Players clearing the age verification process will be short-listed for final trials to be held at a later date at respective regional headquarters.
