70 injured in Bangladesh clashes
Around 70 people, including 10 policemen, were injured in separate clashes in Bangladesh during a 30-hour countrywide strike Sunday to protest against dropping the words "absolute faith in Allah" from the constitution, a media report said. A 12-party combine led by the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish called the shutdown with support from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led opposition, the Daily Star reported. In Narayanganj, protesters blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and burned tyres early morning. A clash ensued when pro-strike activists met anti-strike demonstrators face to face in Siddhirganj, leaving 20 people injured, police said.
