KOCHI: A girl student of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) was reportedly harassed by a group of anti-socials while the student was returning to the hostel.
Following the incident, a meeting called by the representatives of students and officials on Thursday decided to request the city police to strengthen night patrolling at the campus premises.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the girl, a student of Marine engineering, was returning to the hostel.
Though no official complaint was lodged with the police on Wednesday, the students took up the issue with the authorities of the University.
The meeting chaired by the University Vice Chancellor also decided to take adequate measures to clean the premises where wild weeds have grown.
It was also decided to install lamp posts in the college premises and strengthen security arrangements in the campus. The meeting also decided to lodge a formal complaint with the police in connection with the incident.
The university authorities also decided to take steps to bring in additional facilities in the college premises to help the students. It was also decided to conduct regular meetings to discuss the security issue.
