'Hate for Muslims on rise in US'

The Abu Dhabi Gallup Center finds that half of the American Muslims have reported being discriminated against in the past year; this survey shows that the Muslims in the US have more negative views towards the military and FBI.

Press TV interviewed with Ibrahim Hooper spokesperson for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) from Washington to hear his take on this issue.

Press TV: Why do you think the American Muslims are facing more racial and religious discrimination than other faith groups?

Hooper: Unfortunately, just in recent years we have seen hate against the American Muslims being promoted by very vocal minority, the right-wing Islamophobes, here in the United States.

It is having an impact when you have people constantly trying to demonize Islam and marginalize the American Muslims' community; it has an impact over time. We did not even see this kind of feeling immediately after the nine -eleven terrorist attacks. It's really a phenomenon of last two years or so.

Press TV: In your view Mr. Hooper are things getting worst for Muslims in the US since nine-eleven, or have thing in fact improved in these years?

Hooper: The American Muslims are free to practice their faith, we live in a free society, there are many good things about being an American Muslim, but there is also a sense of being under siege from these hate mongers that are constantly trying to demonize our faith.

We hope that other people in our society, people of other faiths will join us in seeking to marginalize the extremist who are promoting this kind of intolerance.
